Center for Integrative Research and Exhibition is a facilitating organism dedicated to promoting a culture of curiosity, quality, and innovation. This occurs through interdisciplinary communication and collaboration, resulting in lectures, workshops, performances, research, and community outreach.
Currently, CIRE is curating events in Santa Fe, New Mexico, though we hope to expand our efforts to Albuquerque, Los Angeles, and beyond. Our events include diverse, and sometimes completely unrelated topics in order to expose the presenters and the audience to information that they might not have otherwise sought out. Previous events have included beekeeping, Indian classical music, psychogeography, video art, hermetic religious history, sound installation, community barbeque, and several concerts of Jazz and experimental improvisation.
We are operating in spaces graciously donated by local organizations. We have had events at the Santa Fe Complex, the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, the Caldera Gallery, Meow Wolf’s ship installation, The Due Return at the CCA in Santa Fe, and the Arteles Creative Center in Haukijärvi, Finland.
Along with adding to the creative community in Santa Fe, CIRE hopes to be able to facilitate connections between local, national, and international organizations that are pursuing the common goals of progressive art and science. There is no “scene” and no one community, city, or country has a monopoly on interesting and important creative output. Our goal is to promote a sharing of space, knowledge, and talent among our web of communities through events that we host, housing swaps, traveling exhibitions, and most importantly, open and frequent communication of ideas.
CIRE is:
Alanna Herrera, co-Founder and Curator
Alanna Herrera is a visual and conceptual artist working in a variety of media including photography, painting, writing, performance and installation. Her current projects explore identity and place through self-portraiture and online archival practice. In addition to art and science, she also enjoys story telling, playing dress-up, bicycling and a good cup of coffee. Alanna holds a B.A. in Media Arts from the University of New Mexico.
Brendan Carn, co-Founder and Curator
Brendan Carn is a contrabassist, improviser, composer, and educator. Through the study of musical structure, linguistics, and complexity, he is attempting to understand and manipulate our human tendency toward order, repetition, and expectation. Brendan is also exploring the boundaries between musical performance and installation art in the form of site-specific improvisation and composition with sampled audio and solo contrabass. Brendan enjoys cledonism, amphilogism, circumlocution, and sesquipedalian talkin’. Brendan holds a B.F.A. in Contemporary Music from the College of Santa Fe, and an M.F.A. in Jazz Studies from the California Institute of the Arts.
